About the Boom Loader 17 Meter
The 17 metre manlift is the one to take when the 14 will not reach, and the reason is usually outreach rather than height. Horizontal reach is 9.5 metres against the smaller machine's 7.5, and that two-metre difference decides jobs where the base cannot be positioned close to the work: a landscaped frontage, a service road, a loading bay that has to stay clear. Working height is 17 metres, roughly five storeys. As on any boom lift the two headline figures are not simultaneously available. Outreach reduces as the platform rises, and the machine's chart governs what is possible at your particular combination. The platform is 1.8 by 0.8 metres and rated to 250 kg, slightly more than the 14 metre unit, which in practice means two people with a more substantial set of tools. It is diesel only, so this is an outdoor machine or one for a building that is not occupied. Four-wheel drive lets it travel across a site under its own power. The articulating boom does what the smaller machine does, going up, then over an obstruction, then back in to the working face, with more of everything to work with.
What it is good for
- Facade, cladding and glazing work up to about five storeys

What the site needs
Firm, reasonably level ground at the working position and along the route. Space to stand the base far enough back to use the full articulation. Overhead obstructions and power lines checked across the whole working envelope, and the ground verified where the machine will operate over a slab, basement or service run.

What does the 17 m give me over the 14 m?+
Three metres of working height and two metres of outreach, 9.5 m against 7.5 m, plus a slightly larger platform at 250 kg rather than 230 kg. The outreach is usually the deciding factor. If the machine can be positioned right at the base of the work, the 14 m is often enough; if something is in the way, the extra reach is what you are paying for.
Can I use it inside a building?+
Not this one. It is diesel only, and diesel exhaust inside an occupied building is a ventilation problem that most sites will not accept. The 14 metre machine is available with an electric power source and is the right choice for indoor work.
How do I know it will reach my work position?+
Give us three measurements: the height you need to work at, the horizontal distance from where the machine can safely stand to the work, and what is in between. Outreach falls as the platform rises, so those numbers together determine whether it is on the chart. Guessing from the headline figures alone is how machines turn up and cannot reach.
What limits the platform to 250 kg?+
Stability. A boom lift is a cantilever, and everything in the basket acts at the end of it. The 250 kg includes the occupants, their tools and any materials, and exceeding it risks the machine rather than just tripping an alarm. Two people with tools is the working assumption.
