About the Crane 100 Ton
A 100 tonne mobile crane is the machine you hire for the lift you cannot reach any other way, and reach, not weight, is usually the reason. The 100 tonne rating applies at minimum radius. Capacity falls away steeply as the hook moves out from the slew centre, so with the full 60 m of boom rigged and the load 40 m away, what this crane can safely pick is a small fraction of its headline figure. Choosing on radius and hook height rather than load weight alone is what gets the right machine to site first time. This unit carries 25 tonnes of counterweight and spans 9.0 m across its outriggers fully extended, reaching 68 m of lifting height on 60 m of boom. For planning those numbers matter more than the capacity rating. The span sets how much clear, level ground you need, and the pads concentrate the machine and its load onto four points, so ground bearing capacity has to be established and mats sized to suit. On reclaimed ground, over a basement slab or above buried services, that check is not optional. Expect the lift to need planning, not just booking: a load chart position confirmed against the real weight and radius, an exclusion zone, a banksman, and wind limits observed. Permits and a lane closure may apply depending on where the crane stands.
What it is good for
- Setting structural steel or precast units at height on multi-storey frames
- Lifting plant onto rooftops, such as chillers, AHUs and generator sets, where the crane has to stand back from the building
- Placing tanks, vessels and heavy skids on industrial and utility sites
- Erecting and dismantling tower cranes and other site plant
- Bridge and infrastructure sections where reach matters as much as weight
What it is not for
- Tight urban plots. 9.0 m of outrigger span plus counterweight tail swing needs a genuinely clear footprint, not a car park bay
- Short, light, repetitive lifts. A smaller crane or a high up truck will be cheaper and far quicker to set up and strike
- Any lift over ground whose bearing capacity is unknown: soft fill, slabs above basements, backfilled trenches or buried services
What the site needs
Level, compacted standing for the full 9.0 m outrigger span, with clearance behind it for the counterweight to swing. Ground bearing capacity confirmed and outrigger mats sized before the jacks go down. The four pads carry the machine and the load between them, not the whole footprint. Access for the crane itself and separately for the trailers bringing the 25 tonnes of counterweight, which does not travel on the carrier. Overhead clearance checked for power lines and structures anywhere inside the working radius.

Mobile cranes of this size are supplied operated as standard across the UAE market; bare hire is not normal practice at 100 tonnes. A banksman or slinger to direct the load and control the exclusion zone is a separate role from the crane operator.
Common questions about the Crane 100 Ton
Can this crane actually lift 100 tonnes?+
At minimum radius, yes. That is what the rating means. As the hook moves out the safe capacity drops sharply, so a 20 tonne load at 30 m is a completely different question from a 20 tonne load at 8 m. Send us the weight of the load, the radius from the crane's centre to where it has to land, and the height it must clear, and we will check it against the load chart before anything is booked.
How much ground does it need, and how firm does the ground have to be?+
The outriggers span 9.0 m fully extended, and you need clearance behind that for the counterweight to swing as the crane slews. Each outrigger pad carries a large share of the machine plus the load, so the bearing capacity of the ground under the pads has to be known and mats sized accordingly. Reclaimed ground, slabs over basements, recently backfilled trenches and anything above buried services all need checking before the crane sets up.
Do I need a permit to put a 100 tonne crane on site in Abu Dhabi?+
Usually yes. Depending on where the crane stands and what it swings over you may need approval from the municipality or the free zone authority, a road or lane closure if any part of the machine or its trailers occupies the highway, and a clearance agreement where the working radius comes near overhead lines. Permits are normally the site's responsibility rather than the crane supplier's.
Does the crane arrive as one vehicle?+
No. The 25 tonnes of counterweight does not travel on the carrier. It follows on separate trailers and is fitted on site. Allow time and clear space for rigging at the start of the hire and de-rigging at the end, and make sure access is wide enough for the trailers as well as the crane itself.
What stops a lift once the crane is set up?+
Wind, most often. Every load has a wind speed above which it cannot be flown safely, and a large surface area, such as cladding panels, empty tanks or hoarding, pushes that limit well below what feels windy standing on the ground. A load whose weight has not been confirmed, poor visibility between the operator and the banksman, and anyone inside the exclusion zone will stop it too.
