About the Forklift 5 Ton
If you are not sure which forklift you need, this is usually the one. Five tonnes covers the great majority of palletised and crated loads that move around a yard, a workshop or a construction site, and it does it without the space penalty of the larger trucks: a 2.8 m turning radius is still manageable in a working yard with vehicles parked in it. The step up from the 3 ton is not really about lift height. Five metres against four and a half is half a metre. It is about what the truck will still carry when the load is awkward. Two extra tonnes of rated capacity is headroom, and headroom is what stops a job stalling when a crate turns out heavier than the paperwork said, or when the only way to pick it up is on the long axis. Forks are 1.4 m, longer than the 3 ton's, which suits deeper pallets and crated machinery. Diesel only at this size, so plan on outdoor or well-ventilated work. The transmission is automatic, which matters more than it sounds when a driver is spending a shift shuttling between a container and a rack.

What the site needs
Firm, level ground that will take the weight of the truck plus its load through four wheels. A compacted yard, concrete or asphalt is fine; soft sand, fresh fill and unbacked slabs are not. Allow turning space for a 2.8 m radius plus the length of whatever is on the forks.
Common questions about the Forklift 5 Ton
What is the real difference between the 3 ton and the 5 ton?+
Not lift height. That is 4.5 m against 5.0 m. The difference is capacity headroom and fork length: 1.4 m forks against 1.2 m, and two extra tonnes for when a load is heavier or more awkward than expected. The trade is space, since the turning radius goes from 2.3 m to 2.8 m. If your aisles are tight, take the 3 ton. If your loads are uncertain, take the 5.
Can it unload a shipping container?+
It can work the contents of a container from the door, provided the pallets inside are within capacity and the forks can reach them. What it will not do is lift a loaded container itself. That is a job for the 10 or 15 ton, or for a crane. Tell us what is inside and how it is packed.
Is it suitable for a construction site?+
On finished ground, yes: concrete, compacted hardcore, asphalt. This is a hard-standing machine on an industrial truck chassis, not a rough-terrain forklift, so soft sand, deep ruts and fresh fill will stop it. If the ground is not made up yet, say so when you enquire.
Do I need to know exactly what my load weighs?+
Roughly is usually enough at this size, which is part of why the 5 ton is the safe default. What matters more is the dimensions: a 4 tonne load that is compact is straightforward, while a 4 tonne load two metres deep may put you over the chart. Send both figures and we will confirm.
