About the High Up Truck 7 Ton
A high up truck is a crane and a flatbed on one chassis, and that combination is the whole reason to hire one. It lifts the item, puts it on its own bed, drives it to where it is going and lifts it off again. Booking a crane and a lorry separately costs two mobilisations and requires them to arrive in the right order. This is the smaller of our two. The crane is rated to 7 tonnes, lifts to 12 metres and reaches 8 metres out; the bed is 6 by 2.4 metres, and the whole vehicle is 15 tonnes gross. Like every crane, the rating applies close in. Seven tonnes is what it handles at minimum radius, not what it picks up at the far end of the boom. The two numbers to give us are the weight and the distance from where the truck can park to where the load must land. The practical constraint is almost never the lifting. It is somewhere legal and firm to stand and put the outriggers down. On a public road that usually means a permit or a lane closure, and on a tight compound it means knowing in advance where the truck will sit. Work the position out before the hire, not on the morning.
What it is good for
- Delivering and placing equipment in one movement: generator sets, pumps, small plant
- Lifting materials over a boundary wall or fence into a compound
- Urban and confined-site work where a mobile crane cannot set up
- Loads that need carrying as well as lifting, on a 6 x 2.4 m bed

What it is not for
- Lifts at long radius. Capacity falls sharply as the boom extends; 8 m is the maximum reach
- Anything above 12 metres, or over a building. That is mobile crane work

What the site needs
A legal, firm place for the truck to stand with the outriggers extended and clear of the load path. On a public road that normally requires a permit or lane closure. Firm ground under the outrigger pads, since the whole machine plus load bears through them, and overhead clearance checked for the boom, particularly near power lines.
Common questions about the High Up Truck 7 Ton
Does it really lift 7 tonnes?+
At minimum radius, yes. As the boom extends the safe capacity drops, so 7 tonnes close to the truck is a different proposition from 7 tonnes at the 8 metre limit. Tell us the weight and how far the load has to travel horizontally from where the truck can park, and we will check it before booking.
Can it carry the load as well as lift it?+
That is the point of the machine. The bed is 6 by 2.4 metres and the vehicle is 15 tonnes gross, so the load has to fit both the deck and the payload allowance once the crane's own weight is accounted for. Give us the dimensions along with the weight.
Do I need a road permit?+
If the truck or its outriggers occupy any part of the highway, normally yes: a permit or a lane closure, arranged in advance. Inside a private compound or yard it is a matter of finding firm standing. Permits are usually the site's responsibility rather than ours, but tell us where the truck has to stand and we will flag anything obvious.
Should I take this or the 10 ton?+
Take the 7 if the load is within reach and weight and access is tight, since it is a smaller vehicle at 15 tonnes gross against 20. Take the 10 if you need 15 metres of height instead of 12, or 10 metres of reach instead of 8, or the load is genuinely heavy. Reach is more often the deciding factor than weight.
